All around the world, people gather together to ring in the new year with a bang, while celebrating new beginnings and a fresh start. Seattle’s Space Needle is a prime location for New Year’s fireworks. In addition to the free viewing on the ground at Seattle Center, those who prefer a closer look can head up to the observation deck to be right up by the action. For an extra dash of fancy, reservations can be made in advance for the rotating restaurant up at the top for 360° views, dancing and a champagne toast at midnight.

Scotland has its own New Year’s traditions. The Hogmanay celebration lasts over three days and marks the end of the year. The torchlight procession travels from George IV bridge to Waterloo Place to open the event on December 30th, but the party lasts well into January 1st as the streets echo with Auld Lang Syne.
