A wide assortment of beans have high levels of protein, including pinto beans, black beans, northern beans and butter beans. Beans are a staple in many people’s diets for a number reasons besides protein content. They are less perishable when dry, so they can keep for a long time, they are relatively inexpensive and are a great way to fill up fast and stay full longer. Beans are a great and versatile way to get plenty of protein into your diet!

The chickpea, or garbanzo bean, is a legume that is high in protein. Used prominently in Greek and Mediterranean cooking, the chickpea is as versatile as it is delicious. One popular approach to preparing chickpeas is to make hummus using chickpeas, tahini and oil. Chickpeas can also be thrown onto a salad for a healthy dose of protein, and incorporated into many great recipes for some added flavor!

4. Lean Chicken Breast

If you’re looking for a lot of protein without a lot of fat, boneless, skinless chicken breast is the way to go. Chicken is also very versatile and can be prepared in a wide variety of ways, to suit your tastes. Toss some cubed chicken breast on your favorite salad, or mix with beans and chiles for a delicious white chicken chile!
