With the gorgeous summer weather in full swing, beaches everywhere are filling with vacationers ready to soak up some sun. If you’re dreaming of a beach vacation, whether by yourself or with the family, but have a tight budget to maintain, there is hope! While prices typically do skyrocket during the summer months, when everyone is flocking to the water, budget-conscious travelers can still get in on the action with a few money-saving tips.

5. Avoid the Weekends

One of the best ways to save money on your beach vacation is to travel during down times, when most people are still plugging away at their 9-5 jobs. Prices for accommodations and other services noticeably go up between Thursday and Sunday, so if you can plan your trip to start on a Monday or a Tuesday, you’ll get to take advantage of lower hotel rates and airfare.

4 . Stay Flexible on Accommodations

Everyone wants to have a room just a few steps away from the water, and hotels know it and price accordingly. If you’re a bit more flexible, you can book a room in town nearby, instead, and get the benefit of lower rates while still being close enough to the beach to get there easily and quickly. Business districts in most cities are a good bet, as well, since they typically charge rates aimed at business travelers rather than beach-goers.

3. Don’t Shy Away from Bargaining

Not every hotel on your list of choices will offer special pricing or discounts, but you won’t know if you never ask. Hotels routinely offer unadvertised pricing discounts and promotions, especially for frequent customers. The key is to ask politely and not be pushy if you’re told ‘no.’ Even if you don’t get a lower rate, you could very well get a room upgrade that will make your stay all the more enjoyable!
