Beauty Busts: 11 Common Beauty Mistakes and How to Fix Them

lips and nails

Makeup, haircare and skincare products can be a brilliant way to cover flaws and enhance natural beauty, but all-too-common faux pas can thwart your efforts and even spotlight flaws and imperfections. Do you know the most common beauty mistakes and how to avoid them? Read on to find out!

 11. Washing Your Hair Daily

11. Washing Your Hair DailyBringing life back to dull, flat hair can be as easy as changing how often you shampoo your hair. Washing your hair every day strips away essential oils that can help fight frizz and leave your hair looking silky smooth. Try skipping a day between washings to see what a difference a day can make!

10. Using Too Much Conditioner

Ever wonder why your conditioner bottle always seems empty long before you run out of shampoo? Most people use way too much conditioner on a regular basis. Conditioner is meant to be used sparingly, and only on the parts of your hair that really need the extra boost. Hair nearest to your scalp is the healthiest hair on your head, and gets all the nutrients and oils it needs from your follicles, so you can typically skip that area when conditioning. Focus instead on the ends of your hair, and you’ll notice extra bounce and volume almost instantly, since your hair will no longer be weighted down by excess build-up from over-conditioning!

9. Spritzing Your Clothes with Perfume

Chemicals used in perfumes can be quite damaging to your clothing, and have been known to stain or fade certain fabrics. Mixed with the fibers of your clothing, some perfumes can also smell a bit off or stagnant. Instead of spraying directly onto clothing, apply your perfume before you dress, focusing on your pulse points – the wrists, behind the ears, base of the throat or behind the knees – for optimum results.

8. Over-Plucking

If you’re like most people, you lean as close to the mirror as you can while plucking your brows, so you can see everything more clearly. The downside to this, however, is that you can’t really see your natural brow shape from that close up, which may lead to over plucking. If you want to avoid mis-matched brows or the dreaded ultra-thin brow look that should have never been a thing (even in the 90’s), opt to have your brows professionally shaped and then tweeze new growth between waxings.

7. Smoky Eye Overload!

Everyone loves the smoky, smouldering eye look, but while it may appear simple to apply, if you aren’t careful you’ll end up looking more angsty-goth-teenager than sophisticated. To perfect the smoky look, start with a lighter color on the inner corners of the eyes and gradually darken as you get to the outer creases. As a final step, blend your colors gently with a fluffy brush, tight-line the upper lashes and use a touch of smudged liner across the bottom lash line, close to the waterline.
