Romantic weekend getaways aren’t just about getting away from home. Taking trips with your significant other may strengthen feelings of intimacy and allow each person to express their feelings. Spending quality time away with your partner can even make your relationship better when you return home.

8. Consider the Timing

Weekend getaways allow couples an opportunity to get to know each other better. If the relationship is brand new, it may be best to wait a little while. You may not know each other well enough to really have an idea of what the other person would like to do. Going on a trip together can either bring a couple closer or exactly the opposite. Couples who are ready to spend a romantic weekend away together should take the other’s personal schedule into consideration when planning the trip. Decide how many nights you can get away and be sure to factor in the amount of time it will take you to get to your destination.

7. Research Romantic Destinations

Create a plan together as a couple, and start by discussing the places you’d love to visit. Although the element of surprise is romantic, both people can plan more effectively if they know where they’re going. Take some time and do some research about romantic destinations such as posh hotels or bed and breakfasts. Ask your friends or check out travel guides for suggestions. Wherever you decide to go, make sure both of you will enjoy the location you have picked out together.

6. Establish a Budget

Travel expenses should be reasonably calculated ahead of time. If you and your significant other have separate finances, decide who’ll be paying for what during the trip. For example, the wife may pay for the lodging while the husband takes care of the food, gas and entertainment. Create a travel budget and stick to it. Resist the temptation to charge the weekend on a credit card only to have to pay on it indefinitely. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have an enjoyable time. However, if you are going to be celebrating a special occasion on your trip, you will need to spend a bit more. If you do have the extra money, take the opportunity to go all out and turn it into the romantic weekend of your dreams.

5. Stay Close to Home

Have you always dreamed of going somewhere distant and exotic? A weekend trip is not the time to try it out. If you decide to take a flight across country, consider the jet lag you will feel from trying to do it all in a few days. If your flight is delayed or cancelled, your plans go down the drain. The best thing you can do to enjoy a romantic weekend getaway is to choose a destination that is relatively close to home. Romantic bed and breakfasts or elegant hotels can be found in most areas of the country.
